| About Dick Osburn's Rare Coin collection |
Dick Osburn Rare Coins began in 1993 as a means for me to sell my duplicate seated halves and thereby raise money to expand my collection. By 1995 I decided to begin setting up at coin shows, and needed to expand my inventory, so I began buying coins of other series strictly for resale. My inventory is still limited to early U. S. coinage. It now includes all bust and seated coinage, plus a limited selection of rare dates in the 3 cent silver series. The business has been successful beyond anything I could have predicted. In June of 2003 I retired early from my job with the space program to devote full time to numismatic activities. My wife, Ruth, retired from her job teaching elementary music in 2006, and has now become an integral part of our business.
We don't consider ourselves full-time dealers, as we don't have a shop and we're not trying to be at a coin show every weekend. We travel extensively, so we're often away from the coin business for periods of a month or more. We still attend about 20 coin shows per year, and maintain an extensive mailing list, now augmented by this web site.
We're full-service dealers. Obviously we sell coins, but we also offer you numerous options for disposing of your coins, including direct purchase, consignment, and auction. We attend many of the major auctions each year, and can represent you in evaluating and bidding on coins that may be of interest. We're also available for consultation on building your collection and we can help you appraise your holdings. We maintain an extensive want list file to help find the coins you're looking for. Please let us know your needs. Many of the rare dates never make it to our retail listings. |
