| Selling Your Coins |
When you enlist my help in selling your coins you'll know that they are being marketed at full retail price, not marketed through a wholesaler as many large dealers do. And my knowledge of the market for rare 19th century coins means that full retail will be the true value of the coins, not just the price indicated by the Gray Sheets or Trends. Note however that my range of interest is limited to certain 18th and 19th century silver, copper, and nickel coins. I can help you dispose of coins from other series, but please call first to discuss. Also note that it takes me longer than many dealers to arrive at a price for your coins, because I attribute and evaluate all the varieties. This may slow the sale by a few days, but it gets you the top dollar for your coins. Some of the varieties are worth many times what their non-variety counterparts are worth.
DIRECT SALE
I can buy your coins directly. My buy prices on direct sales are generally 65-80% of full retail value. The lesser percentages are for common dates, the higher percentages for scarce and rare dates or varieties.
CONSIGNMENTS
I can accept your coins on consignment. These sales take longer, but the return to you is greater. My consignment fees are as follows:
For coins selling for less than $100 : 20% of the sale price
For coins selling between $100 and $500 : 15% of the sale price
For coins selling over $500 : 10%
For coins selling over $5000 : 5%
The consignment fee is graduated. ie. for a coin selling for $600 the fee is figured as 20% of the first $100, 15% of the amount between $100 and $500, and 10% for the amount over $500, or a total of $90.
Due to the time and effort involved in marketing the coins please limit consignments to coins that are worth at least $100 each. This doesn't apply to complete or near complete sets or collections.
Prior to my listing of your coins we'll agree on a minimum return to you for each coin. My listing price will return you at least 5-15% more than your minimum, but the minimum will give me latitude to accept offers received at coin shows or through the mail. On the average I've returned consignors about 105% of their minimums.
AUCTION
I can help you auction your coins. I don't conduct auctions myself, but I have good working relationships with most of the major auction houses. I can advise you on what coins are best auctioned and who the best house would be for each coin. The fee for this service is minimal, 2-5% of the auction hammer price, depending on the size of your holdings.
TRADES
I'm always interested in trading for your coins. Even the low-priced common dates are of interest to me as I seldom get the time to shop for them at coin shows. As with consignments I like to limit trades to coins that are worth in excess of $100 except in the case of sets or collections. |
